About Stuart J Warrington & Co

An independent Macclesfield business with two specialist sides

Stuart J Warrington & Co is an independent business based in Macclesfield, with two specialist sides: design-led fitted kitchens for homeowners, and a trusted bathrooms and plumbing merchant serving trade and public customers.
The business was founded by Stuart Warrington and carries his name to this day. It is now owned and run by his son, Nick Warrington, who has led the business for over 13 years.

How the business has evolved

Design has always been at the heart of what we do. From the early days under Stuart Warrington - when the business supplied made-to-order kitchens from the German manufacturer Rational — through to today, we have never been a range-led business. We have always designed and supplied made-to-order kitchens, tailored to the room and the client rather than pulled from a fixed catalogue.

What has changed is the market around us. The large nationals now dominate the range-led sector, where customers choose a door and a finish from a set menu - and where the cabinets themselves come in a fixed catalogue of sizes and arrangements. Rather than follow that model, we have continued to do what the business has always done well: design-led, layout-first kitchens for people who want a considered, tailored result and value being properly looked after.

Over time, our sourcing has evolved - from those early Rational kitchens to sourcing our own doors and made-to-order cabinetry within the UK - but the design-first principle has remained constant across both generations of ownership. Nick Warrington has led the business for over 13 years, continuing and developing that approach as the market has moved.

Today, SJW sits in the higher mid-market - above the range-led nationals, below full bespoke. Because our cabinetry is made to order rather than drawn from a fixed range of sizes, we can design around the room as it actually is, resolving awkward spaces, improving proportions, and avoiding the compromises a fixed catalogue forces. That's a deliberate position, built on a design-led foundation that has been in place from the start.

What we believe

Across both sides of the business, one principle runs through everything: we act in our customers' best interests.

That means honest advice before the sale: during the design phase for a kitchen, or at the point of product selection on the plumbing and bathroom side. It means care during the process. And it means support after the sale, not just before it.

We are locally rooted in how we serve but not limited in what we specify. We work with trusted local tradespeople where it improves service and accountability. Unlike a national, we can name the people who will work on your project, because those relationships have been built over years. And we choose products on merit, because they are right for the project, not because they happen to be the easiest option.

In the industry: Nick Warrington on The kbbreview Podcast

Nick Warrington is a regular panellist on The kbbreview Podcast - the weekly industry discussion hosted by the editor of kbbreview magazine, the KBB sector's leading trade publication.

Each week, Nick joins a panel of independent KBB retailers and designers to discuss the challenges, opportunities, and decisions facing the kitchen and bathroom industry; from design charging and margin management to recruitment, technology, and what it really takes to run a successful independent showroom.

Being part of this conversation matters to the way we run SJW. The questions the podcast explores: how to charge fairly for design, how to protect quality without losing value, how to help clients reach genuinely considered decisions are the same questions that shape how we approach every project.
